What the spray template records
| Column | Why |
|---|---|
| Date, time | Each application, with the time. |
| Property, paddock or block | Where it went on. Use the same names every time. |
| Crop | What was growing. |
| Product (as on label) | Exactly what was applied. Add the HSNO approval number if you want it on the record. |
| Rate and rate unit | For example 2 L/ha or 50 mL/100 L. |
| Area treated (ha), total product | So the total can be checked against the rate. |
| Water rate (L/ha), tank size, tanks | Useful for orchard and dilute sprays. |
| Timing or growth stage, target | Why and when in the season. |
| Wind speed and direction | Listed by GROWSAFE and the EPA. |
| Applied by | Who did it. The EPA also lists the user’s address. |
| Drift measures | Measures taken to avoid effects beyond the boundary, which certain products require. |
| Notes | Anything else, such as buffer zones left. |

Tips for keeping it up
- Fill in the row straight after the job, not at the end of the week.
- Keep one file per season and name it clearly, for example “Spray diary 2026-27”.
- Back it up. A spreadsheet only on one phone is not a backup.
- Keep your contractors’ records and your invoices with it.
- Keep it for as long as your programme asks. GROWSAFE says spray records must be kept for three years.
Or skip the typing
Sowsay fills in these same columns from a spoken note, then exports a PDF or CSV of your diary. Try it free for 30 days.
